Birthdays! Christmas! New Year!
This time of year the malls and high streets turn into an orgy of consumer capitalism. But, you’ve been doing giving all wrong! Here’s how…
1. Gifting too much
Calm down. Your value does not lie in how much wealth you show off.
2. Gifting too little
Come on, I know the ATMs aren’t working but be a little generous.
3. Assuming you have to gift
Don’t gift just because you feel obliged, that defeats the point of gifting in the first place.
4. Only gift because you’re returning a favor
Just because someone gifted you previously, should not mean that you have to give back. Only gift if you want to.
5. Gifting everyone
This is impossible and will break the bank.
6. Gifting to no one
Friends and family are important – you should show them that by gifting generously and stop acting as an old scrooge.
7. Buying something that benefits you
Really want that trip to the theater? Go buy the tickets for yourself rather than disguising it as a gift for someone else and hinting that you want to be the plus one.
8. Buying something they have no need for
They do not need a garlic crusher if they’re Jain. They do not need a carpet cleaner if they have wooden flooring. Think your gifts through!
9. Gifting back what they gifted you last year
Trust me, some people do it..
10. Expecting something in return
One should never give with the attached tag of ‘expecting’ something in return. Gift because the other person would benefit from it. Give because you want to show love and support.
Christmas is synonymous with presents. But sometimes, you’ve got to think out of the box and make it more special.
This Christmas, grab your chance to become a Secret Santa and gift someone love, hope and a better life!
